Scuvu
Location-based social video app with geofenced push and a moderation CMS
- 8 weeks
- development cycle
The story
Scuvu is a location-based social network: short videos you scroll like TikTok, content pinned to real places on a map, and a web dashboard for moderating it all. The founder had a concept but no product, and needed a lean first version to pitch investors.
The hard part was the alerts. The app had to notify people the moment they walked into a zone on the map, Snapchat-style, while Apple and Google both strictly limit how apps track location in the background. Finding the point where the alerts felt instant and still passed store review took most of the engineering.
We met weekly and handled design, development and App Store publishing, building separate native apps for iPhone and Android. The working first version was ready for investor demos in an 8-week cycle.
“Great communication and professional approach. Our needs and product were immediately understood and addressed. Always available for discussion and to tackle the open issues. We are very happy with the product so far and would definitely recommend to other clients.”
What was hard, and how we solved it
Problem
Feeds ignore place
A normal feed shows the same content wherever you open it, so anything local gets buried.
The moment passes
By the time you hear about something happening a street away, it has already finished.
Open feeds need watching
An open video feed fills up fast, and somebody has to keep an eye on what lands in it.

Solution
Content lives on the map
Posts sit at the place they came from, so what surfaces depends on where the user is.
Push on arrival
Enter an area and a notification fires with what is going on right there, right then.
Moderated from the web
A web CMS gives moderators one place to review and manage everything users post.
