The story
BookFate is a reading app built around one problem: recommendations. Most reading apps guess your taste from what you logged, such as titles, ratings and shelves, which says very little about a long and personal experience.
So BookFate asks instead. After you finish a book, the app puts questions to you that AI writes for that specific book, not a generic template. Your answers are scored into a taste profile, and the profile picks what you read next. Getting both halves right, the questions and the scoring, was the top priority over everything else.
Everything a reading app usually leads with was built around that core: book search, shelves, a reading timer that tracks pages, achievements, an AI chat and chat between readers.
What was hard, and how we solved it
Problem
Choice overload
Endless lists and generic top-10s leave readers scrolling for hours instead of starting a book.
Habits fade fast
Without visible progress, reading quietly slips behind every other thing competing for attention.
Scattered libraries
Physical books, ebooks and audiobooks live in separate places with no single view of what is owned.

Solution
One perfect match
A weighted keyword algorithm learns from every finished book and returns a single next read, not a list.
Motivating tracking
A built-in timer, page counts, yearly goals and 90+ achievements make reading progress visible daily.
Unified custom shelves
Every format sits in one library, organized onto shelves the reader designs and names themselves.
