Client Problem
I've got an existing B2B menu system. I have to make it available for Smart TV, and fix some of the current issues.
It is extremely important to make sure that the users can't exit the app - it is the only app that should be displayed from TV/Tablet.

Our Solution
The codebase is quite messy. It will be quite challenging to fix existing bugs, even though it is not so many of them. We must make as little changes as possible to keep the codebase as consistent as possible.
We must make sure the TV app can't be exited - there is a technology for that, even though it requires some back-and-forth with the manufacturer. We should either use that tech, or create a custom solution, depending on what client needs.

How we made it work
1. Architecture
After fixing the bugs in existing app, we discussed how our client wanted to block the TV app access.
Dealing with the manufacturer wasn't an option, so we had to create a custom algorithm.
After a bit of thinking, we found a suitable solution. Now the next steps were simple - just port an existing app to TV, update the designs, and handoff.
2. Product Development
Everything was straightforward with this app. With our prior TV development experience, we were able to quickly port the app to TV, make necessary design adjustments and test it.
We had to set up a testing environment for our client so that he can actually close the app. The app was supposed to lock the screen, preventing any interactions. But we were able to create a mechanism that would allow our client to exit the app for testing purposes.
After successful client feedback, we handed off the project with all documentation. It is active to this day, 3 years from our handoff, and seems like the business is growing - glad we could contribute to their success!
