The story
SmartTV Club is a TV and streaming service that runs on Samsung and LG smart TVs, Android and iOS. The client wanted every platform covered without paying to build the app four times.
That was the whole challenge. The devices draw their screens differently and support different things, so we designed one shared core and kept the work specific to each device as small as possible. It started on smart TVs and later expanded to mobile, with subscriptions, ad-supported viewing, a TV guide and parental controls.
The client focused on marketing, and we ran the entire technical side over several years. Because the shared core carried over, the most recent version took four months to build. The service has passed 2.7 million downloads.
“The experience exceeded my expectations. The quality of their work is top-notch, and they consistently demonstrated a dedication to excellence throughout the project.”
What was hard, and how we solved it
Problem
Screens everywhere
Viewers watch on Samsung, LG, Android, and iOS, and every one of them renders things its own way.
Cost of each platform
Building from scratch for every new device type eats the budget long before the audience grows.
Not everyone subscribes
A subscription-only service leaves money behind with every viewer who will not pay for one.

Solution
One shared core
A single core runs everywhere, with only the platform-specific layer rebuilt per device.
Reuse cuts the build
The newest TV version took 4 months instead of a full cycle, because most of it already existed.
Subscriptions and ads
Both run side by side, so paying viewers and free viewers each bring in revenue.
