- 6 weeks
- rebuild plus on-site testing
The story
The Stanserhorn cable car in Switzerland needed a new app for its staff. Operators use it to monitor every car, check reservations, pull up safety instructions and read the weather. It also had to work offline, because a Swiss mountain does not have reliable signal.
The challenge was testing. The app runs on the cable car itself and talks to the physical equipment, so a simulator proves nothing. We rebuilt the app in 3 weeks, then spent 3 more weeks testing with the on-site team against the real installation in real conditions, cycle after cycle, until it held.
“Successful collaboration with good communication, flexibility and a high-quality end product. Thank you very much!”
What was hard, and how we solved it
Problem
Coverage drops out
Mountain connectivity comes and goes, and an operations tool cannot stop working when it does.
Answers in four places
Cars, reservations, weather, and safety instructions all lived apart from each other.
No testing at a desk
The app runs on the cable car itself, so a simulator proves almost nothing about how it behaves.
Solution
Full offline support
Everything staff need is on the device and works identically with no connection at all.
One operations screen
Every car, every reservation, the forecast, and the safety instructions in a single place.
Tested on the mountain
Three weeks of test cycles on site, on the live cable car, in the conditions it actually runs in.
